Choosing a Chukchi Sled Dog Breeder

A responsible Chukchi Sled Dog breeder is one that breeds solely for the betterment of the breed and not for financial gain or to meet the increasing demand for Chukchi Sled Dog puppies. The size of the kennel, the amount of advertising and the number of litters produced are in no way an indication of the quality of service and breeding stock. It is important to base your decision of a breeder's respectability on your own knowledge, questions and observations.

1. Ensure that the breeder is registered and that the puppies are also registered with National Sanjankah Dog Association and possess Chukchi Sled Dog Registry of America papers.

2. Ask the breeder why the parents were selected for breeding. Do they appear to be confident in their knowledge of the breed and The Breed Standard?

3. Can you view the parents/pedigrees and puppy vaccination & worming records?

4. Is the breeder checking you out too? Are they asking questions about you and your home to ensure you are suitable for one of their Chukchi Sled Dog puppies? Does the breeder take time with you and show a real interest in you and your questions? The breeders want their dogs placed in loving, responsible homes. They are careful about who buys their animals, so as the new owner; prepare yourself for some questions from the breeder.

5. Does the breeder offer good after sales help and advice should you require guidance with rearing and training of the puppy?

Most reputable breeders should have most of this information ready for you and be pleased to have an informed, interested and careful buyer after one of their puppies. Once you have decided that the breeder is suitable (and assuming the breeder finds you suitable) then you have the job of choosing a puppy.
